Atherton Twins in IRIS in Los Angeles
I first saw the Atherton Twins in Cirque du Soliels Varekai around 2003. I knew they stayed with the show, a number of years. And while in California last week, discovered they are now in Cirque show called IRIS!
Andrew and Kevin were born in the UK, but now live in Los Angeles, California.
Both
were members of the Great Britain gymnastics team until their
retirement from competition at the age of twenty-four years old.
In
2000 Andrew and Kevin joined the world renowned Cirque du Soleil to
develop and create an aerial straps number for their touring show Varekai. They went on to perform 3,034 shows with Varekai. Never missing a single performance.
Andrew and Kevin left Varekai in August 2010 to begin working on IRIS. A new resident show created by Cirque du Soleil, exclusively performing at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
IRIS, a Journey Through the World of Cinema. This large-scale production – created exclusively for its permanent home at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles – offers a new take on the art of cinema as only Cirque du Soleil could imagine it. IRIS is an inventive spectacle that combines acrobatics, dance, projections and live music. It takes the audience on a mesmerizing journey that blurs boundaries between live performance and moving images.
IRIS explores the different techniques of cinema, as it evolves from black and white to colour in a world of shadows and light. The story unfolds as our two young heroes venture through a universe that brings to life a succession of cinematic genres, reawakening the limitless potential of this art form.
