dineLA’s Restaurant Week is a 12-day dining event showcasing Los Angeles

LA’s WEST HOLLYWOOD has decided it will permanently
keep this year’s Pride month rainbow crosswalks.
The walks span San Vicente
Boulevard at Santa Monica Boulevard, and was voted by the West Hollywood City
Council earlier this week to keep them on permanently. Initially after Gay Pride month, the bricks were to be restored the to their original red color,
but they have proved so popular, they will now be a permanent part of
the popular LGBT destination of the city, in the heart of WeHo Boystown.
reported that Councilmember John Duran said the crosswalks, as well as
the rainbow flags along Santa Monica Boulevard, are important for the
soul of the city. He said while locals may take such things for granted,
visitors do not. “[The crosswalks] are critical to the tourists and
young gay and lesbian people and not-so-young gay and lesbian people who
are passing through … They cannot believe that they actually see a
municipality where the rainbow colors are on display all year long. It
tells them it is a sanctuary. It tells them there is a safe place in
America where the LGBT community is celebrated,” he said.
The City of West Hollywood and Christopher Street West will host the annual LA PRIDE celebration from
Friday, June 8, 2012 through Sunday, June 10, 2012. With this year’s
message, “…and Proud of it!”, celebration highlight’s include the WeHo
Dyke March and PRIDE Purple Party, a two-day Festival, and the 42nd
annual LA PRIDE Parade.
The Annual WeHo Dyke March will take place on Friday at 7:30
p.m. starting on San Vicente Boulevard, south of Santa Monica Boulevard.
The march will proceed east on Santa Monica Boulevard to La Cienega
Boulevard and then return to West Hollywood Park
The 2nd annual PRIDE Purple Party – A Celebration of Women runs Friday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Hosted
by Fortune Feimster and Jennie McNulty this event features live
entertainment, dancing, gourmet food trucks and community outreach
organizations booths. This event is free.
The two-day LA PRIDE Festival will take place on
Saturday from noon to midnight and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in
West Hollywood Park. A highlight of the festival will be a one-hour
live performance on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. by rap artist Lil’ Kim as
well as other live entertainment on multiple stages. The festival
includes dance venues, a water park (a first for the festival) and
hundreds of exhibitors and food vendors. Admission is $20. Tickets can
be purchased online at www.lapride.org and at the main entrance on San Vicente Boulevard or the new south entrance on Robertson Boulevard at El Tovar.
The LA PRIDE Parade is Sunday starting at 11 a.m. The parade
will travel west on Santa Monica Boulevard, starting at Crescent
Heights Boulevard and ending at Robertson Boulevard. The parade
generally lasts two to three hours.
Millions of people come to Rockafeller Center and New York City at Christmas!
The tree, usually a Norway spruce 75 to 90 feet (23 to 27 m) tall, has been put up every year since 1931.
The decorated Christmas tree remains lit at Rockefeller Center until the week after
New Year’s Day, when it is removed and recycled for a variety of uses.
In 2007, the tree went “green,” employing LED lights. After being taken down,
the tree was used to furnish lumber for Habitat for Humanity house construction.
