Gay Charlotte North Carolina

When I was a child, it seemed like there was a Walgreen’s drugs store on every corner.  I was reminded of this in Charlotte, North Carolina, only in Charlotte there is a Protestant church on every corner.

If one went to a different church very week, it would take many years to visit them all -- if indeed you would want to.  A major challenge to a visitor is the fact that every few blocks, the name of the street changes.  It’s funny that numerous streets named Queens, really not an appropriate appellation for the nature of the city life.

Bring your GPS.

Charlotte is no Mecca for the gay traveler.  Most of the establishments listed when I Googled Gay Charlotte are no longer in existence.  Some have been closed for many years.

One restaurant list was open.  The Pewter Rose at 1820 South Blvd. was a fine choice.  More importantly attached to the restaurant is Tutto Mondo Bar & Lounge.  Randy, the bartender at Tutto Mondo, turned out to be the gay concierge for the gay community.  He is a cute, charming, knowledgeable young man who knows what is happening in town.  He also happens to be the HRC political activist for the Carolinas.  By the way you can order off the Pewter Rose menu and be served at Tutto Mondo.

Randy made several recommendations:

1.  Sidelines, a gay sports bar at 4544 South Blvd.  We never made it there, but I think it would be worth checking out.

2. Petra’s Piano Bar & Cabaret at 1919 Commonwealth Ave.  This is a lively place with lots of nice gay men entertained by drag queen, Roxy C. Moorecox.  She seems to be pretty much of a permanent fixture.  We were there on Trivia Night.  It was fun, but we didn’t win.  I was amazed how well we did!  Petra’s has scheduled an interesting variety of gay  performers.  This venue has three different rooms to accommodate all kinds of activity.  Without doubt this is the number one gay place to be in Charlotte.

3. Chaser’s at 3217 The Plaza Street (at the corner of 36th and Plaza Street), is a showcase for young male strippers.  Oh I love gorgeous naked men.  The dancers walk around when not performing.  They cruise the oglers.   A cute Chaser guy just loves to get greenbacks tucked in the his cod piece as he presses into your body.  While this place is nice for awhile, the music is alarmingly loud, so although we would have liked to ogle a little longer, we left after five or six performances and numerous gropes from the roaming cuties.

Just next door to Chaser’s is The Independent News Inc.  This is the place for magazines, DVD’s, and a nice selection of sex toys.  I found a vibrating dildo at last!
Both Chaser’s and The Independent News are entered from the rear parking lot.

If you find yourself in Charlotte, visit the Mint Museum and take the free trolley ride around the city.  You will not find much for the gay community but you can unwind at the places listed here.  Check to see what concierge Randy at Tutto Mondo prescribes for your visit.

Happy traveling!
